The Barcolana, the world’s largest mass-start sailing race, is set to take place in the Gulf of Trieste in Italy. Close to thousand boats of all types and sizes will fight for position along a 1.8 mile start line as they set off on the 54th edition of the race around a 13-mile course.The Barcolana is organised by the yacht club Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano is widely considered to be one of the world’s most unique sailing events. Professionals sailors and passionate amateurs race side-by-side on boats that range from small day boats to the world’s largest square riggers combining timeless classics with high-tech boats. The world record for any regatta participation was in 2018 when it reached 2,869 boats and over 16,000 sailors on the starting line.
