SailGP is an international sailing competition using high performance F50 foiling catamarans. The F50 boats used in the competition are one design boats maintained and operated by SailGP. Technical information is also shared between teams, which includes large amounts of data collected using Oracle systems.

The final race of the season is a match race between the two highest scoring crews over the season with the winner earning a US $1 million prize. The circuit has been funded for 5 years to allow the competition to become self sustaining.

The competition was founded by Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle and champion yachtsman Sir Russell Coutts.

The inaugural competition was in 2019 with 6 teams competing from Australia, China, France, Great Britain, Japan and the United States of America. The competition consisted of a circuit of five race meets in Sydney, San Francisco, New York, Cowes and Marseille France.

    Time to start the engines - all the F50's have been launched and had plenty of practise in the Sydney Harbour. Nearly time for Round One.

    Episode 8

    After all the hype it's time to race - both of the Australian skippers showed their local knowledge with two wins for Slingsby (Team Australia) and one for Outteridge (Team Japan) separated by just one point overall.

  • SailGP S1 - Sydney - Day Two

    Episode 9

    Slingsby and Team Australia came out in front of their home crowd and they didn't disappoint. Three straight wins and the overall trophy for the first stage of SailGP.

  • SailGP S1 - San Francisco - USA Team 'Lady Liberty'

    Episode 10

    Lady Liberty is now watching over the USA SailGP Team on local soil (or water) with the sailors getting some air time on the San Francisco Bay in preparation for Round 2.

  • SailGP S1 - San Francisco - Carnage in the Bay

    Episode 11

    The six teams literally hit the San Francisco Bay for the first time. Official practice became survival for many when China and Australia both nearly capsized and causing serious damage to the wing.

    Episode 12

    In front of a packed crowd in San Francisco the F50's took to the Bay - it was a dominant Outteridge and Team Japan picking up all race wins but glimpses from GBR and AUS prove that this isn't a one horse race.

    What a difference a day makes for Team Australia with race wins for both Tom Slingsby (AUS) and Dylan Fletcher (GBR). All Aussie Match Race Final with Japan verses Australia.

  • SailGP S1 - New York - Day One

    Episode 14

    "Holy Hecka" - Phil Robertson sums up the first day in New York. Team GB have a spectacular capsize in tough breezy conditions shadowed by the NY skyscrapers and the boys from Down Under battle for the podium.

    Episode 15

    "Team Japan were Kings of the Hudson" - Slingsby pragmatically explains after seeing his main rival, Nathan Outteridge, pick up his first stage win closing the gap overall to just one point leading into the next event in Cowes, UK.
